Seasoned based performance peak

Seasoned based performance peak.

The science of strength and conditioning is complex and multidimensional. The fitness of a football player-athlete can be affected by various endogenous or exogenous factors; with the seasons of the year being one of paramount importance..

It’s no coincidence that great sports events such as the Olympic Games, World Cup, Euro, Copa America etc., take place during the summer period. As well as the most important matches of the biggest club competitions (the final of Champions League and Europa League) conducted by the end of spring to the beginning of summer.

Another vital factor upon which clubs build the season's success is the pre-season preparation. This part of the periodization is taking place at summer and is characterized by high training volume and a lot of charges. The pre-season preparation is focused on improving strength, hypertrophy, force, stamina, speed, jump ability and all the other factors of fitness.

Melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and makes individuals drowsy. Its composition and secretion are activated by the darkness and disabled by the sunlight. That means that this hormone secreted most by the winter, because the duration of the day is shorter. During the summer months the duration of the day is longer, as we have more sunlight. This means that with more sunlight the testosterone increases rapidly while the melatonin is decreased, so we can understand that these two hormones function inversely. On the other hand, testosterone is an androgen of steroids, which has anabolic effect on human body and contributes to muscle building capabilities. When we have more sunlight the high levels production of testosterone increase the desire for carbohydrate-based foods. One of the most important factors to produce energy in the body is the burning of carbohydrates. There is plenty of availability of sugary based foods like fruits and vegetables by the summer. All things considered that during the summer months, we have the peak of performance and it is much higher than the winter.

In conclusion I propose to train harder during the summer to reach the peak of performance and to plan by winter an effective method of training to maintain the high performance of our football players.

Thank you Mr. Angelos for the interview and your time

Let's face it! Realism is an element that should not be missed in any training session.

Nowadays, training tends to be repetitive without giving the necessary emphasis to detail. And to some basic football habits, every coach should emphasize not only the quality of the energy but also the way it is achieved.
